MOVIE REVIEWS 2014

Days of Future Past (3D)

One of the best in X-Men series, the teaser at end of ‘The Wolverine’ had me intrigued especially the moment ‘Trask’ was mentioned which hinted that the Sentinels were to arrive, the trailers had raised my expectations and the movie did not disappoint. For me the time travel concept has always been fascinating, especially the ‘change the history to change the present’ angle, also it gives the director freedom to render drastic events on-screen, as in this case the sentinels making short-work of X-Men, only to restore it back in time.
It is great to see more X-Men – Bishop, Sunspot & especially Blink joining the ranks along-with existing screen favourites (there was applause in the theatre as Storm and Wolverine made their entrance). Hugh Jackman is the perfect on-screen Logan and is at his usual best. Jennifer & Fassbender continue to impress as Mystique and Magneto respectively and the scene where new and old Prof. X connect is touching but it is Evan’s Quicksilver who steals the scene as he comfortably ‘times’ his steps to free Magneto from high-security prison.
On the flip side the future Sentinels reminded me more of ‘Destroyer’ from Asgard and future Logan somehow seems to have his adamantium claws back though this movie is supposed to follow the events with Silver Samurai in ‘The Wolverine’. Also reappearance of Jean & Scott at the end is a surprise albeit a welcome one. The ending credit scene hints at the looming ‘apocalypse’ and sets stage for next movie.
